HOW TO GET HERE
To reach La Colmena from Asunción, you have several scenic options, each offering its own unique charm.

Vía Areguá
The scenic route passes first through Areguá, on Lake Ypacaraí, renowned for its colonial charm, artisan ceramics and winter strawberry fair. Stop at La Candelaria, Don Pablo, La Escondida for a colourful lunch. Continue to Paraguarí, another colonial gem, before the landscape rises into mountain country and the village of Sapucai. The last leg—a well-kept dirt road—winds through farms, eucalyptus groves and rolling peaks to La Colmena. Keep your camera ready!

Vía Nueva Italia
The second route offers a quicker and more direct option, taking you from Asunción to Nueva Italia, then through Carapeguá and Acahay before reaching La Colmena. Fully asphalted, this path provides a smooth drive while still offering beautiful views along the way.

Vía Ybycuí
For true overlanders, an even wilder route awaits: from Areguá drive to Paraguarí, then aim for Ybycuí, then Ybycui National Park. A 4×4 is essential for the 34 km dirt track that cuts through the park—rewarding you with lush scenery and waterfall pools perfect for a quick swim—before you push on to La Colmena.
